It's already been a big year for Wiliot. We'd like to take a moment to update you on our progress.

To give some context as to where we are today, here is a brief look at the last few years:

  • 2017 - Company founded, start of Research & Development
  • 2018 - The first sticker to harvest radio frequencies & power an ARM processor
  • 2019 - Demonstration of the first RF harvesting Bluetooth® sticker (engineering sample) at The National Retail Federation Big Show

This year Wiliot has designed and built 5 prototype chips. A very rapid rate of innovation for a semiconductor company. With each version we have increased robustness, and also added encryption, multiple on chip sensing capabilities, and harvesting from three radio bands simultaneously. Our most recent, and exciting milestone is the completion of the first production chip design, a 'release candidate', which should power the Version 1.0 Wiliot tag and move us from making small batches of product to volume production! We have been working with our RFID partners to prepare mass production of Bluetooth tags using RFID production techniques and machinery. We have already proved that a “crystal free Bluetooth radio” can work in the face of environmental changes like temperature changes and when placed on different surfaces and are looking forward to enabling scale.

The rest of this year will be focused on taking this release candidate chip from wafer, through processing, testing, configuration, all the way to conversion into the final tag form factor, ready for the first field tests next year. By the end of 2019 we should have a good sense of the performance of the release candidate. In Q2 2020, we plan to roll out some of the existing Early Advantage Program projects we have been working on this year. 2020 will continue to be a controlled release of that product. We will open up availability as performance and robustness allow us to scale to more partners and customers.

Last, but certainly not least, we have been working on security and privacy. Beyond the encryption that is now enabled on our chip Wiliot is now ISO Certified!

ISO/IEC 27001:2013 & ISO/IEC 27018:2014 - The certificates can be found here.

Thank you for your support and interest. We are grateful for all of the outreach we receive and see new applications for this technology every day. We are committed to a vision where Wiliot tags connect people with products. For us this means producing tags at a low cost that can scale the IoT from billions to over a trillion, changing the way “things” are made, distributed, sold, used and recycled. Our goal is to show our progress with use case demos in January at the NRF Show in New York. Please make a point of visiting us there.
