The prestigious recognition highlights the semiconductor innovation behind Wiliot’s IoT Pixels along with the company’s role in leading and enabling Physical AI at scale
SanDiego, CA – May 19, 2026 – Wiliot, a global leader in Physical AI for supply chains, today announced that co-founder and CEO Tal Tamir has received the“Global Industry Leader” Award at ChipEx2026, recognizing his contributions to semiconductor innovation and artificial intelligence.
The “Global Industry Leader” Award is the highest honor presented at ChipEx, the largest annual conference dedicated to Israel’s semiconductor and AI industries. The award recognizes individuals whose vision and leadership have reshaped the semiconductor industry and influenced its global trajectory.
Past recipients include Dr. Irwin Jacobs, co-founder and former Chairman of Qualcomm; Dr. Henry Samueli, co-founder and Chairman of Broadcom; Prof. Andrew Viterbi, co-founder of Qualcomm and inventor of the Viterbi algorithm; and Prof. Steve Furber, architect of the Arm system-on-chip architecture.
“The board of ChipEx2026 decided to present the Global Industry Leader Award to Tal Tamir to recognize him as a visionary entrepreneur whose work has reshaped global connectivity and wireless communications,” said Sol Gradman, CEO of ASG Ltd. and Co-Chairman ofChipEx2026 – Israel’s flagship event dedicated to the semiconductor industry.“Tal led Wilocity to its landmark acquisition by Qualcomm and later co-founded Wiliot, where he and his co-founders pioneered the world’s first battery-free, self-powered IoT Pixels – enabling a new category of Physical AI in supply chains.”
Tamir was recognized for his role in advancing wireless technologies and for helping pioneer the development of Wiliot’s IoT Pixels, battery-free semiconductor devices that operate without a power source. About the size of a postage stamp,IoT Pixels harvest energy from ambient radio waves and continuously sense attributes such as location, temperature, motion, and humidity. This capability enables everyday products and assets to function as connected data sources without the cost, maintenance, or limitations of traditional batteries.
“IoT Pixels started as a semiconductor challenge – how to create a device that could operate without a battery, include sensing capabilities and be produced at massive scale as a data feed,” said Tamir. “What they now enable is a new AI data layer for the physical world. When physical objects can continuously communicate their condition state, organizations can operate with a level of accuracy and responsiveness that wasn’t previously possible. I’m honored to receive this recognition alongside past recipients whose work has shaped the foundation of our industry.”
Wiliot’s IoT Pixels serve as the data sensing layer for the company’s Physical AI platform. By generating a continuous stream of real-time data from physical objects, the platform enables organizations to monitor, understand, and respond to conditions across supply chains as they occur. This data is processed using AI models to support automated workflows, improve operational accuracy, and reduce delays and waste across complex environments.
Wiliot’s Physical AI platform is now deployed across the supply chains of many of the world’s largest enterprises, including Fortune 100 companies in retail, logistics, food and beverage, quick service restaurants, and post-and-parcel. These deployments are operating at scale, supporting continuous visibility and automation across high-volume, distributed networks.
Tamir co-founded Wiliot in 2017 alongside Yaron Elboim (co-founder & COO) and Alon Yehezkley (co-founder & CTO) with a vision of bringing intelligence to everyday objects. Prior to Wiliot, Tamir co-founded Wilocity, a semiconductor company acquired by Qualcomm in 2014.
The award was presented at the ChipEx2026 Executive Summit in Tel Aviv on May 13, 2026.
